DIVISION: Superior Court
CLASS DEFINITION: This class is accountable for operating electronic recording equipment to record verbal testimony during courtroom proceedings and preparing accurate and timely transcripts.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of an Official Court Reporter or other employee of higher grade.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Receives on the job training in the following job functions in order to become proficient in the duties outlined in the job descriptions for Court Recording Monitor I and II:
*Setting up and testing recording equipment;
*Operating equipment to record verbal testimony during court proceedings;
*Monitoring recordings using earphones;
*Creating proper and accurate notes of court proceedings, including names of participants, case/docket numbers and marks notes for recall testimony;
*Preparing accurate transcripts and appeal papers in accordance with established deadlines;
*Assembling and maintains records and files;
*Preparing reports and correspondence as assigned;
*Performing clerical and other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY: Knowledge of office administration; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to prepare accurate typewritten documents; ability to operate personal computers and other related equipment to enter, organize, store and retrieve data in accordance with established deadlines.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience: One (1) year of clerical experience and the ability to produce accurate typewritten documents at a rate of 40 words per minute.
Substitutions Allowed: College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience.
ADVANCEMENT: After two years of satisfactory job performance, including the ability to type accurate and timely transcripts, Court Recording Monitor Trainees will automatically be eligible for advancement to Court Recording Monitor I. Advancement will occur on the first day of the first full pay period following eligibility.
