Adult Probation Officer
Responsible for conducting pre-sentence investigations of referred cases and overseeing a caseload of clients referred by the court for supervision.
Reviews, evaluates and processes a variety of files, motions, orders and judgments in civil, criminal, family and housing areas; monitors compliance with applicable statutes, case law and rules of court; schedules pre-trial and trial calendars; notifies involved parties of case status and court decisions; may review and schedule special proceedings; swears in witnesses and jurors, keeps lists of witnesses and exhibits, records dispositions and other orders of the court, prepares files for data entry or other administrative record keeping.
A state appointed person who may set the amount of bond for persons detained at a police station prior to arraignment in court, who recommends to the court the amount of bond that should be set for the defendant.
Family Relations Counselor
In marital dissolution or separation cases, conducts comprehensive family evaluations involving disputed issues of child custody, visitation and family finances; prepares and presents oral and written evaluations including dispositional recommendations to the court, attorneys and families; when necessary, provides testimony to the court; may assist in conducting conjoint mediation sessions with parties to assist them in achieving mutually agreeable solutions to disputed issues; working with attorneys and clients, conducts pre-trial settlement conferences, analyzing complex family financial data and recommending equitable distribution of income and assets; develops and maintains relationships with community agencies to make appropriate referrals for services and to obtain necessary information; provides crises-intervention, on-going counseling and education services to clients; in criminal cases involving family violence, conducts assessments of dangerousness and recommends appropriate judicial action to ensure the safety of victims including protective orders.
Increases public awareness of the jury system by making presentations to educational institutions and civic organizations.
All cases concerning uncared for, neglected or dependent children and youth, termination of parental rights of children committed to a state agency, matters concerning families with service needs, contested matters involving the termination of parental rights or removal of a guardian transferred from Probate Court and the emancipation of minors. It does not include guardianship or adoption cases, or matters affecting property rights of any child or youth over which the Probate Court has jurisdiction.
Juvenile Probation Officer
Responsible for the placement of an adjudicated delinquent under the supervision of a juvenile probation officer.
Support Enforcement Officer
Monitors compliance with family support obligations; makes case assessments to determine appropriate actions to ensure compliance with court orders; negotiates informal agreements; initiates motions to the court such as contempt citations, wage withholding orders, non-support arrest warrants, support petitions and modifications; advises clients pursuant to support obligations; conducts pre-trial settlement conferences with clients and their attorneys in an attempt to resolve issues related to contempt actions; formulates dispositional options for the court; makes case presentations to the court representing the unit; develops supporting documentation relative to contested motions initiated by the Division; seeks alternative to court interventions by establishing support obligations through paternity acknowledgements and agreements to support.
Victim Services Advocate
Responsible for independently performing a full range of tasks including providing information and assistance to victims and witnesses of crimes and their families.
