Supreme Court BenchDid you know that the Supreme Court building in Hartford is almost one hundred years old? Did you know that it is the only court of its kind in Connecticut? Most people are not aware of this rich, historical treasure located in the state’s capital city. The Connecticut Supreme Court, State Library, and Museum of Natural History make up the 231 Capitol Avenue residence, directly across from the State Capitol and Legislative Office Building.

Kids' Stuff

Supreme Court CourtroomBoth adults and children can sit in the courtroom and view their state’s history, from the beautiful state oak tree panels that cover the walls, to the two famous murals entitled "The Allegory of Education" and "The Fundamental Orders, 1638-1639," which grace the wall and the ceiling. Students may gaze up at the portraits of retired Chief Justices, and sometimes one lucky individual will play the role of court marshal for the day! Whether young or old, individuals can understand the importance of this courtroom -and how it differs from the Superior and Appellate courthouses in Connecticut.
