Effective Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, the new Litchfield Judicial District Courthouse at 50 Field St. in Torrington will be fully open, following the completed transfer of business from three separate courts.
The graduated move started last month and has involved closing and moving business from: the Litchfield Judicial District Courthouse at 15 West St., Litchfield; the Superior Court for Juvenile Matters at 410 Winsted Road, Torrington, and finally, the Geographical Area 18 Courthouse at 80 Doyle Road, Bantam.
The consolidation of these various functions under one roof will allow for greater efficiency of operations. Additionally, the new 173,000-square-foot courthouse features a private circulation system for staff and prisoner movement throughout the courthouse, which is critical to ensuring the public’s safety in the facility.
“We could not have asked for a smoother transition into this new state-of-the-art facility,” Chief Court Administrator Patrick L. Carroll III said. “We are very pleased with how things have gone, and are grateful for all of the hard work judges and staff have done to make things as seamless as possible.”
