American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters
Law Day 2014
The Windham Judicial District marked Law Day on May 2, 2014 with a visit
from Secretary of the State Denise Merrill to Danielson Superior Court.
The annual event began with welcoming remarks from Hon. Michael E. Riley,
Administrative Judge. Judge Riley introduced this year’s Law Day Theme,
"Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters." Secretary of
the State Merrill urged those in attendance to continue to safeguard the
right to vote and pointed out that this year’s theme was particularly
relevant. She described recent legislative measures in other states
that impact voters’ rights.
Windham County Bar Association (WCBA) President and past
Association President Norman Janes presented this year’s Liberty Bell Award
to WCBA Secretary/Treasurer Stephen Adams. The Liberty Bell Award is
presented annually to an individual who makes a significant contribution to
the bar, the justice system, and/or the community. Attorney Adams was
recognized for his many years of service to the WCBA and to the community.
